Welcome to the memorial page for

Beverly Ann (Dickerson) Cofield

May 30, 1937 ~ June 2, 2016 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Beverly Dickerson Cofield entered eternity on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at Lenoir Woods Care Center in Columbia, after many years of challenging health.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p. m., Saturday, June 11, at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel with a visitation from 1:00 p. m. until time of the service.  There will also be a gathering of friends at 7:00 p. m., Monday, June 20 at Paquin Towers, 1201 Paquin Street, Columbia.

She was born May 30, 1937, in Columbia, MO., the first child of Ross O. and Louise Barnes Dickerson.  In 1939, she contracted Scarlet Fever which left her visually impaired and hearing impaired for her life. In spite of her differing abilities, she worked hard as both student and homemaker. She loved her days at Jefferson Jr. High School and Hickman High School(Class of 1955), where she was in the pep squad and attended most every athletic event. She also attended William Woods College in Fulton.  She was able to hold several jobs in service industries. Her heart was generous; she often gave to others things that she really needed herself.

She was married to Cleveland Crouch in July, 1958; to Leland Byars in 1960; and Ernest Cofield, in 2006.

She had two children: Joyce Crouch Waterbury and Leland Scott Byars.

She encountered many challenges in life, but her strong Christian faith enabled her to face each day with new resolve. She professed her faith and was baptized at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia. She was a faithful member for over 30 years of the Salvation Army Church in Columbia, where the leadership and the congregation embraced her and her spiritual gifts. She also attended faithfully, the Rocheport Christian Church Bluegrass Worship service.

She found great joy in her many nieces and nephews, her church and any parade.

She is survived by her son, Scott Byars, Columbia; her siblings, Mickey Dickerson Havener (Ralph), Columbia;  and Ross O. Dickerson, Jr.(Gloria); nieces, Chellie Davis Hinshaw (Paul), Columbia; Barbara Dickerson Moneymaker, Tucson;  nephews, James R Davis (Laura), Atlanta, GA; James R. Fisher, Hamilton, IL; Jeffery Fisher(Lori), Columbia; Chuck Dickerson, Tucson  and brother-in-law, Jim Fisher, Hamilton, IL.; and a host of great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

She will be missed by her faithful friend and caregiver, Melinda Cramer; her faithful friend and cousin, Bonnie McDaniel; her faithful friends, Sheila True and Judy Maxwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Joyce Waterbury; and her husband, Ernest Cofield.

Donations are suggested to: The Rocheport Christian Church, c/o Betty Sullins, treasurer, 401 Lewis St, Rocheport, MO 65279; or The Salvation Army Church, 1108 West Ash, PO Box 1864, Columbia, MO 65205-1864.
