Charles Derl Burks

February 21, 1935 ~ August 7, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

   Charles Derl Burks, 82, of Columbia, formerly of St. Charles, Missouri and Florence, Alabama, passed away on August 7, 2017.

   Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2017, at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. 

   Charles was born February 21, 1935, in Whitehead, Alabama to Luther L. and Mary Lurene McKee Burks and they preceded him in death.  On June 6, 1958 he married Patricia Frederick in Florence, Alabama and she survives.  Charles had a successful career in the manufactured housing industry, operating mobile home parks in St. Charles and Columbia as part owner and general manager.  He spent several years with Morgan Drive Away and NTC as regional director until his retirement.  He served as President of the Missouri Manufactured Association from 1983 – 1987, being the 1983 Man of the Year.

   Charles was a member of Twilight Lodge #114 A.F & A.M., Moolah Shrine Temple, Tiger Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Valley of St. Louis, Confederate Masonic Lodge of Research, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Military Order of Stars and Bars and Confederate P.O.W. Society.

   Other survivors include his children, Fred (Stephanie) Burks, Derrel Burks and Cindy Burks, all of Columbia; four grandchildren, Andy (Nicole) Burks, Brian (Hillary) Burks, Hunter and Hayden Elizabeth Burks, all of Columbia; sister, Marva (Bill) Bretherick and brother, Tony (Shirley) Burks all of Florence, Alabama; brother-in-law, Bill (Susan) Frederick of Owensboro, Kentucky; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.  Also surviving are special cousins, Gail (John) Moss of Huntsville, Alabama and Morris D. (Anita) McKee of Rogersville, Alabama.

   He was also preceded in death by a great nephew, Cory Thomas; a sister, Jeannine Burks Mason and a nephew, Bart Frederick.     

   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel, 1610 N. Garth Ave., Columbia, MO 65202.
