Claude “Sonny” McCormick, 76, of New Franklin, passed away at his home on August 20, 2016.

Sonny was born in Moberly on July 29, 1940, a son of James and Corine Crowley McCormick.  He married Alice M. Carmichael on April 21, 1958. She preceded him in death June 27, 2010.

Mr. McCormick was a self-employed logger for many years.  He cut many logs and hauled many bales of hay over the years.  He loved his family especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Sonny loved fishing and vegetable and flower gardening.

Cherishing his memory are three sons, Tim McCormick (Pam) of Sturgeon, Dennis McCormick (Dorothy) of Blackwater and Gary McCormick (Tammy Simmons) of New Franklin; two daughters, Pam Hinck (Terry) and Cindy McClelland both of Boonville; a brother, Charles McCormick (Janece) of Independence and two sisters, Adae Townlain (Willie) and Mary Roth both of New Franklin.  Also surviving are his much loved grandchildren, Scott Robertson (Natalie Distler), Jamie Robertson (Felecia), Ashley Hamblen, Alyssa Gerlach and Tara Brewer (Jarod); and great-grandchildren, Maddy Robertson, Dylan and Jace Hamblen; Hannah, Aiden and Gracey Rose; Keegan and Kendall Brewer and Jacob Thoma and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Terry Lynn McCormick and a sister, Katherine Holt.

Services honoring Sonny’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin with Rev. Wayne Purvis officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Private family interment will be at Clarks Chapel Cemetery.
