Leonard William Hackmann

Leonard William Hackmann, 87, of Fayette, passed away September 10, 2016 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

He was born in Howard County on December 30, 1928, a son of Arthur William and Emma Louise Schroer Hackmann.  Leonard married Esther Delores Wallje on April 4, 1954 at Clear Creek United Church of Christ.  She survives at their home.

Mr. Hackmann served his nation in the US Army from 1951 – 1953 during the Korean Conflict.  He was a longtime farmer and drove school buses for the New Franklin School District for 25 years.  He was confirmed at Immanuel United Church of Christ in New Franklin as a young person and was a life-long member.  He was dedicated to his church, serving on the Church Council and was a member of the choir for over 50 years.  Leonard had served on the boards of Farm Bureau, Rural Electric Association and the New Franklin School Board.  He was an avid fan of New Franklin athletics and enjoyed going to blue grass festivals.  He loved his family and was a good family man.

He is survived by Esther Hackmann, his wife of 62 years; four daughters, Debbie Hackman of Holliday; Barbara Guinn and husband, Ed of Columbia; Gayle Kircher and husband, Randy of New Franklin and Nancy Fisher and husband, Truman of Boonville and two sisters, Delores Privitt of Columbia and Betty June Dale of North Carolina.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Neil Guinn and wife, Katie; Bryce Guinn; Teresa Martin and husband, Cody; Daniel Kircher and wife, Paige; Samantha Kircher; Kelly Fisher and Brian Fisher and seven great-grandchildren, Ava Kois, Emery Guinn, Sullivan Martin, Teel Martin, Britton Kircher, Jerzy Green and Kayli Green.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lorene Hocker.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 12, 2016 at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in New Franklin.  Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.
