Albert Langerud Obituary

Albert J. Langerud

1929-2019

Albert Junior Langerud, 89, of Paris, passed away June 21, 2019 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Mexico.

Albert was born in Forest City, Iowa on September 28, 1929 a son of Albert Tom Langerud and Tone (Olson) Langerud.  He married Frances Harrison on February 24, 1950 in Leland, Iowa.  Frances preceded him in death on April 1, 2019 after sixty-nine years of marriage.

Albert was self-employed as a carpenter for many years and also farmed for fifty years.  His talents enabled him to make anything from fine furniture to remodeling and building homes and barns. Albert especially took pride in making unique one of a kind projects. He could repair just about anything making friends with those he helped.  Albert  worked with Frances at the Snoop Shop in Paris for many years where he also had his wood working shop.  Albert and Frances were members of Mt. Airy Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling and helping with mission work.  He made many pulpit, communion table and offering plate sets for Native American Mission Churches and personally delivered them as part of his service.  As a couple, Albert and Frances were generous to others giving of themselves and their talents and opening their home to others when they needed a place to call home.  Everyone in the family looked forward to his bags of homemade jerky he smoked and the gifts he created for them. Also, Albert enjoyed planting a large garden and sharing the produce from it.  Albert’s most recent mission activity was sharing a smile and greeting visitors at Monroe Manor where he had made his home in recent years and playing his harmonica for other residents and staff.

Albert is lovingly remembered by his children, Debra (Richard) Hoffman of Montverde, Florida, Hazel Kinder of Paris and Cynthia (Jack) Damron of Cabot, Arkansas and daughter-in-law, Judy Langerud (Terry McMillen) of Paris.  Also cherishing his memory are his much-loved grandchildren, Albert Gus (Shawna) Langerud, Katie (Matt) Wilson, Travis Langerud, Laura (Jason) Moore, Aaron Damron, Amy Damron, Michelle Damron, Cody (Lexie) Hoffman, Amber (Wes) Herndon; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife, Frances and his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his son, Albert Dennis Langerud; three grandchildren, David, Paul and Jonathan Kinder; son-in-law, Steve Kinder; eight sisters, Marlys Haugen, Junice Brown, Stena Stewart, Jeniva Howe-Johnson, Amie Hauge-Brown, Doris DeMerritt, Esther Donohue-Baumgartner and Edith Peterson.
