He was kind and loving. He always had a “Hi kid” and a hug. He was forgiving and funny. John loved a good laugh. He loved to sing with his brothers, son and nephews and was known for his Al Jolson and Frank Sinatra covers. He enjoyed seeing children smile and the loyalty of a good dog. John met Shirley in 1954 while playing pool in a pool hall. Every year on their anniversary he would tell the story of how they met and how at that moment he knew she was the only girl for him. John still looked at Shirley with the same love and amazement as he did on that day in 1954.  John served on the St Clair County Posse. He was a business owner and contractor at House of Iron in Cahokia, Illinois. John sought out a new adventure in California giving up his well-established business and starting Golden Key Builders in Alameda Ca. John was very generous and always helped his family and friends whenever needed.  John leaves behind Shirley his wife of 62 years who he took care of during her own health issues. He is adored by her and all his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed. His memory will live on through those who love him. The world is no longer the same place.

Services will be held Saturday October 19 from 1pm to 3 pm at Bach-Yager Funeral Home in Columbia, Mo.

In Lieu of flowers John would like donations to go to the St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. John’s battle with cancer was short but he stated he couldn’t imagine a child having to suffer what he was facing. May angels lead the way to the light of the Lord.
