Charles "Chuck" Lusby

Though his time with us was far too short, Charles (Chuck) Grant Lusby, lived his life completely on his own terms.  He was always the first person to offer a helping hand or share a joke to lighten the mood. The world feels a little dimmer without his infectious smile and bright spirit.

Born on November 25, 1972, in Bangor, Maine to Ollie Leon (Jr.) and Priscilla Butler Lusby, Chuck brought boundless energy, laughter, and plenty of entertainment into our lives from the very start.

His passion for cars started at a very young age when his Hot Wheels addiction began.  Chuck would tinker with his cars to make body adjustments as well as spray paint different body colors and designs. Most recently, he found great joy working alongside his daughter, Addisyn, restoring an older truck together.  It wasn’t just another project - it was time spent making memories, sharing laughs, and passing along the knowledge and passion he loved so much.  

Chuck was always adventurous, sometimes a little too courageous, and occasionally a little annoying. Growing up, he spent hours every summer launching himself off the diving board at the Fayette City Pool working on perfecting his jumps, flips, and his famous cannonball splash, which became a true art form.  
Chuck developed a love of hunting for turkey and deer.  He was a skilled marksman.  He enjoyed hunting on the farm with family, especially his son Gavin.  Many stories have been told of Chuck’s prowess for shooting a deer right before dusk.  

Chuck graduated from Fayette High School in 1992. While in high school, Chuck also attended Boonslick Technical Educational School.  Upon graduation, Chuck was employed as a mechanic for Reuther Automotive in Glasgow, Missouri. He was a master at restoring cars and tinkering with small engines.  If you knew Chuck, then you heard all about “The Skunk”, one of his many beloved Mustang GTs. 

Chuck graduated from the Police Academy in 1995.  His career in law enforcement spanned 30 plus years serving as an officer for the Fayette City Police as well as the Boonville City Police, Deputy Sheriff with the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, and served as the New Franklin Police Chief.  Chuck was well respected as a law enforcement officer.  

While working as a Deputy Sheriff, Chuck was one of the employees featured in a Discovery ID Channel documentary about a high-profile case, which led him to become the tv star of the family.   

In more recent years, Chuck channeled his characteristic discipline into his health and fitness, discovering a true passion for weightlifting. He was a regular in the weight room and that is the reason his son, Gavin, got into lifting. Chuck loved teaching him the ropes, but he also loved being silly with his progress. He was famous for playfully flexing and striking poses for everyone in the family. Drawing from his time in law enforcement, Chuck also trained in Jiu-Jitsu and was a fan of MMA and the UFC. His dedication to his training was a testament to his relentless strength, while his goofy flexing and showing off reminded everyone of his incredibly bright spirit.

Chuck passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the age of 53. 

He leaves behind the things he cherished most: his wife Melissa, his son Gavin, his daughter Addisyn and his stepdaughter Kaitlyn, stepson Johnie, stepdaughter Alexia, and grandsons Ben and Kohen.

He is survived by his father, Ollie Leon Lusby, Jr, his sister Terry (Dean) Beasley and his brother Ollie (Deb) Lusby III, along with three nieces, one great nephew, and many more relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Priscilla Lusby, Paul and Kay Butler, his maternal grandparents and Ollie Leon and Sue Lusby Sr, his paternal grandparents. 

Chuck will always be well remembered and will live on in all the hearts of those who loved him. 

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Chuck's life from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, Saturday, September 5, 2026, at The Howard County Event Center, 239 County Road 401, Fayette, Missouri 65248.

Memorial Donations can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
