George Lyon Obituary

George Thomas Lyon, Jr., age 86, of Armstrong passed away July 10, 2026, at Glasgow Gardens.

Tommy was born on November 25, 1939, in Kansas City, Kansas, a son of George Thomas Lyon, Sr. and Katherine Helen Griesel Lyon.  He married Naomi Stevens on April 25, 1959, in Fayette.  Naomi preceded Tommy in death on November 10, 2025, after 66 years of loving marriage.

Tommy was 1957 graduate of Armstrong High School.  He served in the US Army Reserves.  He was employed with Summers Elevator, as a lineman for Missouri Power and Light and the City of Fayette Utilities and later as a vault man with Moberly Wilbert where he took great pride in providing good service to families and funeral home clients.  During all of these jobs he also enjoyed time farming.  His favorite pastimes included spending time with family, gardening and bowling.

Those cherishing Tommy’s memory include his children, Greg Lyon of Armstrong, Matthew Lyon (Valeri) of Armstrong and Becky Breid (Sammy) of Paris; three brothers, Donnie Lyon of Overland Park, Kansas, Larry Lyon of Holliday Island, Arkansas and Ovid “Boosie” Lyon of Armstrong; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Besides his wife and parents, Tommy was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Marcia Lyon.

Services honoring Tommy’s life will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Sharon Bible Church in rural Armstrong with Rev. Harold Young officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow the service at Sharon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Sharon Cemetery Association or the Fayette Senior Center.
