Ilene Ellen (Robertson) Schouten

Ilene Ellen Schouten, Columbia, formerly of Marshall passed away at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia on March 19, 2023.

Ilene was born February 26, 1933, in Sedalia, MO, the daughter of the late Leslie Homer and Gwendolyn Roberta (Hamilton) Robertson.  She graduated from Green Ridge, MO in 1951 and soon married Charles Leland (Pete) Schouten on December 26, 1951, in  Sedalia, MO.  Together they raised seven children.

Ilene spent her life as a homemaker, mother and retired from Wal-Mart where she worked as a Department Manager.  She loved to sew, a craft she learned out of necessity in her younger days, and seemed to always be making something for her Grand and Great Grandchildren and enjoyed the challenge of Word Searchs until her declining eyesight posed too much of a challenge.  Having big dinners at her house was something she really enjoyed, having family and friends over and always eager to feed you, something her generation was accustomed to growing up during the time of the Depression.

Ilene was a long-time active member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church near Harrisburg  where her family began attending in 1969 when they moved into the area from Marshall.

Ilene is survived by Paul Schouten (Henrietta) of Harrisburg; Pattie Leiby (Kevin) of Harrisbug; Charles Schouten (Penny) of Harrisburg; Anthony Schouten (Donna) of Stover; Richard Schouten (Rene’) of Laveen, AZ and Tammy Summers (Kent) of Moberly; 21 Grandchildren; 41 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles (Pete) Schouten; daughter, Christina Brinley; grandchildren, Nadia Gayle Schouten and Benjamin William Schouten.

The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 24, 2023, at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kevin Leiby officiating.  Family will receive friends from 10:00 a. m. until time for the service.  Burial will follow the service at Smith Chapel Cemetery.
