James Lewis Joy, 76, of Columbia, passed on Monday, November 9, 2020 at home surrounded by family.
Family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be Monday, November 16, 2020 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Jacksonville with military honors and Masonic Services.
Jim was born April 14, 1944 in St. Joseph, the son of Gordon and Georgia Dotson Joy, who preceded him in death. On November 28, 1969, he married Frances Neville and she survives having celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary last year. Jim served his country in the Marine Corp in Vietnam where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and cook. He was a Benefactor Life NRA Member and founding member of the Friends of NRA.
Jim is also survived by his children, Tyler (Carrie) Joy of Fulton, Morgan (Shawn) Twenter of Columbia; two grandchildren, James and Hadley Twenter. Jim believed you had the right to choose your family and is also survived by his chosen brothers, Richard (Stacy) Beaulieu of Lake St. Louis, Dutch (Malou) Thomas of Lebanon and many other adopted family members and friends. He is preceded in death by chosen brother, Gerald Duty of St. Joe.
