Janet Mildred (Shuman) Ward, 83, a resident of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2023, at The Neighborhoods.
Janet was born on October 20, 1939, in Niagara Falls, New York, the daughter of Milford Merton Shuman and Mildred Eleanor (Nenno) Shuman.
Janet enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and quilting and made many things for her family over the years. She loved tending to her vegetable garden where she would grow vegetables for canning or cucumbers to make pickles. She also had a love for cooking with polish sausages, spaghetti and meatballs, as well as chocolate mayonnaise cake, being the family favorites. She also had an infinite amount of love for all dogs.
She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by one son, John Herbert Roquet Ward of Pearl River, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Logan Ballew and wife Rachel, Rheanan Ward Gallegos and husband Drew of Groesbeck, Texas; Eric Ward and wife Tabatha of Pearl River, Louisiana; four great grandchildren, Rylan, Sloan, Logan Jr., Palmer; one sister, Dawn Giboney and husband Bob of Columbia, Missouri; two brothers, Dr. Robert M. Shuman and wife Marcia of Placerville, California, Dwight H. Shuman and wife Windy of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother-in-law, Wayne Herbert Ward and wife Carol of Burt, New York; numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Robin Leigh (Ward) Ballew Cummons; one grandson, Colt Ballew; one sister, Barbara E. Shuman Capen and her husband Bill; one brother, Duane William Shuman and his wife Bonnie.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Rutland-Corwin Funeral Home in Newfane, New York, with a visitation being held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Following the services, Janet will be laid to rest in the Hartland Cemetery in Hartland, New York.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Parkade Baptist Church, 2102 N. Garth Ave. Columbia, MO 65202.
