John Fielding Foster

John F Foster, Sr., 99, of Hallsville, passed on Monday, September 28,2026.

Graveside services with military honors will be 10:00 am, Monday, October 5, 2026, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery - Jacksonville.  Patroit Guard to serve as casket bearers.

John was born in Eldon, Missouri on January 8,1927, the son of the late Leroy and Irene (Schlup) Foster. On January 10, 1948, he married Dorothy Lefever in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

John was best at taking care of his family, telling stories about his time in the army or growing up and being a good example for his kids.

His interests included wood working, cutting wood, having a garden and being a tree farmer.  He loved watching sports especially football and soccer.

John tended his apple orchard so a bumper crop of apples could be harvested in the fall.

He was referred to as “Big John” at the post office where he worked.

John received a football scholarship to play college ball as a defensive tackle.  His nose was broken in one game, they put tape on it and was put back in the game.

His kids have food memories of playing softball in the yard with Mom and Dad.

John is survived by his children, Sharron Toops of Arizona, John Foster, Jr. (Sandy), Richard Foster (Mary) and Christine Walters (Ron) all of Hallsville, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter.
