Martin "Doc" Everhart Obituary

Martin Everhart, or as most would come to know him as "Doc" was born into this world on April 11th, 1949 in Quincy, Illinois to Mary Etta (Libbee) and William "Buddy" Everhart.

He was the 6th of 8 children. He was raised in a farming family and he learned the importance of hard work and perseverance at a young age. Family was always the most important thing to him but he loved people and he never knew a stranger. He loved whimsy and playing games.
He learned the art of practical joking and general shenaniganry at an early age and he loved to laugh and make people smile. His fondness of quoting Bugs Bunny as a little boy is what would earn him the moniker "Doc".

In 1967, Doc graduated from Renick High School in Renick, Missouri but the friendships that he formed in elementary school would continue through high school and remain near and dear to him for the rest of his life.

Doc would go on to become a serviceman in The Army National Guard for many years before working as a truck driver for Huskey's Mobile Home Transporting Service for 30 years, as well as several other companies. He retired with the staggering achievement of "3 Million Accident Free Miles". He was an exceptional employee and working with him was both rewarding and inspiring.

He was a big man in every way. A noticeable presence in every room, he was the kind of man whose very existence drew you in, and if you knew him- then you knew that he would always be there if you called on him. You knew that you could always count on Doc to do the right thing.    He didn't take shortcuts. He did everything to the best of his ability. "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right" he would say, or "do it right, or don't do it at all." The man had high standards.. as you would soon learn if you ever tried to talk up anything other than a Ford pickup truck.

Doc was one of the strongest men you've ever met and he liked to prove that fact every chance he got. You'd be hard-pressed not to find someone with a crazy story of what they've seen him do. Carrying a refrigerator around by himself was not uncommon. He may have even fancied himself a bit of a Samson. He was real proud of his super strength and his magnificent mane. Yet despite his giant stature and bear strength, he was one of the most gentle souls you could ever meet. He had a habit of rescuing stray animals even though he pretended he didn't want to. His best friends were his kittens (all named after the cast of Gunsmoke). His presence brought peace because he was a fierce protector.

On October 4th, 1984 Doc married Katherin Lynn Huskey (Kacee) and they had 2 children, Kala Danyell and Michal Martin Levi. The moment Doc became a father, he became the most dedicated father there ever was- and not just to his children, but to anyone who needed him. Later on, his grandchildren would become the light of his life and Paw Paw became his favorite nickname. He was the living definition of unconditional love to his children, grandchildren and his family and he lived out his faith in every way.

Doc was born a farmer. He loved to grow all kinds of things... food gardens and flower gardens alike and he taught his children from birth, how to cultivate and cherish the life all around you. His daughter would grow up to become a florist.

Doc was an incredible craftsman and a skilled carpenter. He loved making anything out of wood, it was one of his favorite pastimes.  Anyone that was lucky enough to have something that he created knows that his work is a treasure. He always inspired you to dream big and you can bet that he did as well. You can see it in everything he set his hands to.

He was an incredible welder. He could create anything and you can bet it will still be around in 100 years because everything he did was massive in every way. You won't find anything more immense, ponderous or monumental. His son would also grow up to become a welder.

As much as he worked, everyday from sun up to sun down, he always found time for fun.
Doc love to play baseball- a love born from his family for sure. Even at 76 years old, he was always the first to challenge you to a game.
His trash talking abilities were nearly unmatched, and his secret joy in life was playing pranks on anyone around him.
No matter how mad he made you with his jokes, you still ended up laughing about it because the joy that radiated from his eyes and smile was contagious. He had the ability to make you laugh about anything.

He was a master storyteller. His ability to convince you of strange creatures, imaginary lands, made-up words or weird facts was legendary. He didn't have the largest repertoire when it came to recipes but the ones that he did have- only he could make, and when he made you a meal it fed your soul for days...  Nobody can make Doc's chili or hamburger pie.

Doc went home to glory on May 18th, 2026 and his loss will forever leave a chasm in his loved ones lives.

He is survived by his wife Kacee Everhart, daughter Kala Everhart and her sons Kalin and Killian of Columbia, Mo, son Michal (Amanda) Everhart and their children Kyrie and Dean of Broken Arrow, OK, as well as many siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends that he considered family.

A Celebration of Life to honor his memory will be planned at a later date.
