Mary Ellen (Terzopoulos) Skyvalidas

Mary Ellen Skyvalidas, (née Terzopoulos), 65, of Columbia, Missouri passed away on August 8, 2026. She was born January 28, 1961, in Ames, Iowa to George and Judy Terzopoulos (née Debelak). Mary moved to Columbia in 1969, and except for a few cherished years living in Greece, she spent her entire life in the community she loved. 

Mary was the proud mother of three children: Soula (Bryce) Gallatin, Victoria (Brian) Kruse, and Pano (Claire) Skyvalidas. Their father, Angelo Skyvalidas, continued to be a valued and active part in Mary’s life after their divorce. 

Mary spent many years helping run the family restaurant while raising her children. At age 40, Mary began her teaching career. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education and taught for many years both in Columbia Public Schools and at Christian Chapel Academy. Her faith guided her and was an example to many. 

Mary was a natural storyteller, a lover of strong coffee, and happiest when spending time with her grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her three children; her sisters Terri Terzopoulos (Michael Riley) and Lori (Donny) Danner; her grandchildren Dane Gallatin, Macy Gallatin, Chloe Kruse, Ryan Kruse, Callie Skyvalidas, Ellie Skyvalidas, and another granddaughter expected to arrive any day. 

Mary’s legacy lives on in her family, her students, and the countless lives she touched.  May her memory be eternal.

A Gathering of Family of Friends (no service, open house style) to celebrate Mary's life will be on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel.
