Melvin Henry Cotten, Sr.
1945 – 2023
Melvin Henry Cotten, Sr., age 77, of Glasgow passed away on March 9, 2023 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics.
Melvin was born in Holly Springs, North Carolina on June 6, 1945 a son of John Henry Cotten and Callie Mae Baker Cotten. Melvin served his nation in the US Marine Corps. He married Estelle Fay Burgess and she preceded him in death on December 8, 2011. Melvin was a self-employed carpenter specializing in residential and commercial construction and hotel setup. He had practiced his trade in many states. He also owned and operated Grey Fox Trading Post and Timeless Treasures antique stores in Fayette and New Franklin.
Melvin’s favorite activities included spending time with his family, fishing, antiquing, playing pool and traveling, especially to the mountains. He also loved his dogs.
Survivors include his children, Chris Cotten of Glasgow, Jenny (Steve) Walters of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Melvin Henry Cotten, Jr. of Tennessee, Angela (Hugh) Furneaux of Glasgow and Micheal Cotten of New Franklin; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Shelia (James Duncan) Cotten of Clemson, South Carolina and a niece, Callen Duncan.
In addition to his wife, Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and by two great-grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette.
