Oliver Wayne Sheffield, 86, of Hallsville, passed away on January 29, 2016 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2016, at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel. Graveside services with full military honors will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2016, at Red Top Cemetery, Hallsville.
Oliver was born June 9, 1929 in Hannibal, Missouri to Tom and Zola Hartman Sheffield. After serving in the Army in Korea he graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange College. He married Joyce Davis and they were married for 62 years. Oliver worked as a journeyman bookbinder in Hannibal and Columbia. He then worked for the Sheltered Workshop where he was a part of establishing and naming Phoenix House. He later spent a number of years as a field auditor for the State of Missouri Employment Security.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Sheffield of the home; five children, Joy Schrader, Brian Sheffield, Angela (Tim) Waller, Libby (Billy) Schultz, and Jon Sheffield; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Oliver was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and two grandsons who died in infancy.
